TYPES OF DSTV DECODERS

Single View DSD – Digital Satellite Decoder
DSD990
DSD1110
DSD 1131
More recent versions of this decoder DSD 1110 and DSD 1131 come
with a paired smartcard which will only work with its own
decoder. The smartcard of older DSD versions or a swapped card
will however work with most other smart card enabled digital
satellite receivers.
NOTE: The Less the DSD number, the older the Decoder Version
Dual View & SD-PVR Decoders (Standard Definition)
These decoders allow you to watch 2 different channels from 2
different TV sets. They are no longer available for purchase but
quite a number of people still own them.
The SD-PVR – Standard Definition Personal Video Recorder has the
following additional functionality:
Record up to 80 hours of TV programming
Pause live TV programming
Watch 2 different channels on 2 different TVs and record a third
channel at the same time.
Rewind live programming
Fast forward and slo-mo programming you have recorded.
HD-PVR – High Definition Personal Video Recorder
HD is the next phase of TV broadcast and offers much better
visual resolution. It has revolutionalised the television experience
with life like viewing, sharper images, more vibrant colours and
precision picture quality.
You will need an HD or HD ready TV to view the high definition
channels.
The HD-PVR also has the following functionality:
Record 150 hours of Standard TV or 50 hours of HDTV
Pause live programming
Rewind live programming
Fast forward and slo-mo programming you have recorded
Extra View
Since the DUAL VIEW or SD-PVR decoders are no longer available
for purchase, the facility of watching 2 different channels on 2
different TVs at the same time can be achieved by connecting 2
single view decoders or a HD-PVR and a single view decoder.
Both decoders and smartcards are linked to each other with one
as the primary decoder and the other the secondary decoder. An
extra view fee is usually charged with the monthly subscription.
NOTE: Only DSD 1110 and more recent versions of single view
decoders can be used for the extra view connection.
2 HD-PVR decoders or a HD-PVR and SD-PVR decoder can also be
used.
10 and DSD 1131 come
with a paired smartcard which will only work with its own
decoder. The smartcard of older DSD versions or a swapped card
will however work with most other smart card enabled digital
