Overview of mytv

My TV is an affordably priced satellite delivered pay television
service that is intended for the African family.
Realistic pricing and a balanced choice of programs were the
determining factors in selecting channels for My TV.
The aim is to have something of interest for every member of the
family, across the full age spectrum, at a cost of approximately
USD 0.50 per day (subscriptions are payable in local currency,
with slight variations between countries depending on taxation
issues).
The service comprises a mix of movies, sports, music, kids, news
and general interest channels all of which can be received (in most
places) on a standard 90cm parabolic antenna (dish).
My TV is carried on the Intelsat 10 satellite (located at 68.5° East)
along with a number of Free-To-Air (unencrypted) channels for
you to enjoy.
My TV is an encrypted (or scrambled) service. Viewing the service
requires a duly activated My TV Smart Card and a Digital Satellite
Receiver equipped with the CONAX CAS 7 Conditional Access

TYPES OF DSTV DECODERS

Single View DSD – Digital Satellite Decoder
DSD990
DSD1110
DSD 1131
More recent versions of this decoder DSD 1110 and DSD 1131 come

decoder. The smartcard of older DSD versions or a swapped card
will however work with most other smart card enabled digital
satellite receivers.
NOTE: The Less the DSD number, the older the Decoder Version
Dual View & SD-PVR Decoders (Standard Definition)
These decoders allow you to watch 2 different channels from 2
different TV sets. They are no longer available for purchase but
quite a number of people still own them.
The SD-PVR – Standard Definition Personal Video Recorder has the
following additional functionality:

single view decoders or a HD-PVR and a single view decoder.
Both decoders and smartcards are linked to each other with one
as the primary decoder and the other the secondary decoder. An
extra view fee is usually charged with the monthly subscription.

decoders can be used for the extra view connection.

DSTV REMOTE CONTROL UNIT (PVR RCU)

THE SHIFT BUTTON
The SHIFT button is used to access the secondary functionality.

secondary function. The TV, ALT, TV GUIDE and LANGUAGE
buttons are active during normal use.
After pressing SHIFT, it will flash / blink, confirming the mode of
the remote control (i.e. the “shifted functionality” has been
activated). It is not necessary to hold both buttons down at the
same time.
If not used, the SHIFT function will cancel itself after 20 seconds.
The SHIFT function can also be cancelled by pressing SHIFT again.

Note: The SHIFT button can also be used to change between TV1
and TV2 modes of extra views in recent single view DSTV remote
controls. The red remote control light blinks on the mode being
used.
THE DIAL
The Dial is used for different TV environments and can be
customised for use with TVs and other audiovisual equipment in
your home. The position of the dial can be seen through the
mode window. In the example below the remote control is in 2B
mode.
Whenever a button is pressed, the mode window will blink
confirming that the command was sent in that mode.
The different sections of the dial are called modes. The basic
functions are the same in each mode however each mode also
allows control of additional devices.
The Dial modes are TV1, TV2, A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4, A, B, C, D in
more recent Dstv Universal remote controls.
Turning the Dial
Place a thumb on each side of the ring (next to the left and right
arrow buttons) and push upwards with one thumb. The dial can
turn both clockwise and anti-clockwise.
BLINKING LIGHTS
The remote control has various ways of indicating specific
conditions. Examples:
Quick blink = OK
Slow blink(s) = error
SHIFT button blink = advanced mode
No blink = invalid button
The SHIFT button will blink continuously when SHIFT is active
The mode window will blink whenever a button is pressed to
confirm that the command has been sent in that mode
If there is no blink, the button being pressed is invalid.
With certain functions, the SHIFT button blinks when a command
is sent, instead of the mode window (Advanced Functionality).
This indicates that a special mode is active and that the mode
displayed in the mode window is inactive (not being used). These
special modes are all subject to a 20 second timeout.
Timeouts
If any button on the remote control is held down continuously for
longer than 30 seconds, the remote control will automatically
switch off. This is done to conserve batteries, for example if you
sit on the remote control or a book is placed on top of it, etc.
Note: If left alone for more than 20 seconds, the remote control
will always return to normal operation for the selected mode
PROGRAMING THE DSTV PVR RCU FOR TV1 & TV2
The universal RCU sometimes needs to be reprogrammed to
work with some versions of decoders (some DSD 990 and earlier
versions or Dual views).
You can do this as follows:
Turn the dial on the remote control to any of the programmable
positions.
Press and hold the [SHIFT] key until the light blinks 3 times
indicating the dial position.
* NOTE: If the remote immediately gives two slow blinks when
you press the [SHIFT] key, you may need to change the mode
you selected on the dial.
Enter the 5 digit code (21363 for single view (TV1) & 21463 for dual
view TV2). The light will again blink 3 times to indicate success.
